February Students of the Month
Congratulations to the Ray-Pec East Middle School Students of the Month for February! They were recognized for having amazing listening skills. Two recent Ray-Pec grads earned All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association honors in the mile during the MIAA meet on Monday, Feb. 27. Braden Zaner, running for Pittsburg State University, placed 5th with a 4:07 mile, and Tyler Swift, running for Emporia State University, placed 7th with a 4:12 mile. Braden and Tyler are both 2020 Ray-Pec grads. During the race, Braden and the top four finishers broke the old MIAA record. In addition, Braden won the MIAA indoor 5K run in 14:24 and has provisionally qualified for NCAA Division 2 Nationals. Braden is the son of Teachers Bob Zaner and Tara Zaner, who both teach at Creekmoor Elementary. Tylerโs father, Jamin Swift, teaches at Ray-Pec High School.


RP School Board on Feb. 23 honored Special Olympics athletes for success at the regional basketball tournament. Three Ray-Pec Unified 3-on-3 teams won 1st place & qualified for state. The Team Skills team placed 3rd.




Congrats to 3 Ray-Pec girls wrestlers on qualifying for state! These girls qualified by placing in the top 4 of their brackets at the District tourney: Senior Brynn Elkins, 2nd place, 155 lbs; Senior Cayley Maynard, 3rd place, 170 lbs; & Junior Anna Fahrni, 4th place, 235 lbs.



Kindergarten and first grade teachers from across the District work together during a professional development session on Monday, Feb. 13, at Bridle Ridge Elementary School.

Congratulations to the Ray-Pec Special Olympics basketball teams on great performances at the Regional Tournament! All three of the Ray-Pec Unified 3-on-3 teams won 1st place (Gold) and qualified for the state tournament, which will take place on March 25 in St. Charles, Mo. The Team Skills group placed third, but did not qualify for state.




From Wednesday, Jan. 25, to Saturday, Jan. 28, five Ray-Pec High School choir students participated in the Missouri All-State Choir. This is the highest honor that a singer can receive in our state. At today's ribbon-cutting ceremony at Whataburger in Raymore, the business donated $1,000 to the Ray-Pec Public School Foundation. Ray-Pec High School students sang the National Anthem as part of the ceremony. Thanks, Whataburger, for partnering with Ray-Pec!



Library Media Specialists at three schools received a grant of $750 to purchase non-fiction books for use by students in the Success Academy program. Success Academy is an alternative education program for students in grades K-8. Librarians Janet Bader (Creekmoor Elementary), Heather Poland (Eagle Glen Elementary), and Kelly Testerman (Timber Creek Elementary) applied for the grant. Holding the giant check are Kristie Farris, Success Academy Administrator, Teacher Shaylen Boze, and Teacher Katie Fernandez. Dr. Bryan Pettengill, Assistant Superintendent for Operations, was the guest speaker on Feb. 1 at the Belton-Raymore Rotary Club. He talked about the Proposition RP-1 tax levy transfer issue that will be on the April 4 ballot. He also provided an update on Proposition S construction projects.

The School Board tonight recognized East Middle School Theatre Teacher Adam Segura for an award he received last fall.
Segura received the Outstanding New Teacher Award from the Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri, or STAM.
This award is given annually to a teacher in their 3rd to 5th year of teaching. Mr. Segura is in his 4th year of teaching, and his entire teaching career has been in the Ray-Pec School District. He was nominated for the award from Dane Schnake, speech and theatre teacher at Ray-Pec High School. Dane received this award in 2020.

The Ray-Pec School Board tonight recognized Senior Peyton Koper on her 5th place finish at the state tennis tournament last fall.
Sheโs the first-ever girls tennis two-time state medalist in Ray-Pec school history. She finished 4th as a sophomore and 5th as a senior. She plans to continue her playing career at Washburn University.

Thanks to the Community Bank of Raymore for donating a total of $3,000 to the Ray-Pec Public School Foundation! This picture shows the presentation of the bank's gift of $2,000. An additional $1,000 came as a result of the bank receiving a special award.
Community Bank of Raymore received the 2022 Forvis Award for Excellence and Innovation for its annual โStuff the Busโ School Supply Drive and Operation: Gratitude efforts. This award recognizes Missouri Independent Bankers Association (MIBA) member banks that make extraordinary use of innovative ideas and demonstrate commitment to their employees, customers, and community. In addition to the recognition, Forvis contributed $1000 to the bank to give to the charity of its choice. Thanks, Community Bank of Raymore, for selecting the Ray-Pec Public School Foundation as the recipient charity.

Congratulations to former Ray-Pec High School baseball coach Gary Renshaw, for being inducted into the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Jan. 21 at the annual coaches association meeting in Jefferson City. He had an overall record of 333-312; with five conference Championships; six District Championships; and three Elite 8 appearances.
Congratulations to Coach Brandon Ransom on being named Assistant Coach of the Year!


Thanks to Amy Bowden - American Family Insurance, Peculiar, for collecting board games for The Refuge! On Friday, Jan. 6, Amy presented about 30 board games to Ray-Pec Public School Foundation Executive Director Jodie Huston, and Foundation Board Member Ashley Crowe. The games will be used when The Refuge opens for middle school students on the second Friday of each month. Thanks, Amy!
