The School Board on June 22 recognized employees who helped make sure the graduation ceremony for the Ray-Pec High School Class of 2023 was a success. It rained for hours on Friday, May 19. Although it appeared that the rain would stop before the ceremony, there was some anxiety about the conditions. Ray-Pec High School proceeded with graduation at 7 p.m., and due to the hard work of many people, the bleachers and chairs were dry and ready for visitors. Armed with towels and leaf blowers, a large group of staff and administrators worked to prepare the venue for the ceremony. The School Board on June 22 recognized Hayden Kurtz, an incoming senior at Ray-Pec High School. She is pictured with Board Member Bill Lowe. Hayden participated in the javelin throw at the state track and field meet on May 27. Her throw of 38.83 meters earned her 6th place for Class 5.

Ruth Johnson, President of the Raymore-Peculiar Board of Education, has been sworn in as the new President of the Missouri School Board’s’ Association for the 2023-24 year. Congratulations!

The work never stops for our administrative team. Last Friday, district administrators and principals met at the LEAD Center to review the 22-23 school year and begin preparing for the 23-24 school year. Superintendent Dr. Mike Slagle talked about opportunities and challenges in the year ahead. We thank our school and department leaders for their passion and commitment!

We are experiencing difficulties with phone service today, Thursday, June 8! Many calls to and from district phones are not going through. The phone service provider is working to resolve the issue. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Many thanks to the Roderick L. Young Foundation for Youth Music Education for donating nearly $3,400 toward the cost of two cellos for the Ray-Pec orchestra program.
The Foundation was created in 2014 to honor Rod Young, a resident of Peculiar, after he retired from a 37-year career as a music educator. Ray-Pec graduate Cher (Littleton) Megasko was the chairperson of the Foundation.
Over a period of seven years, the Foundation awarded scholarships to enhance the music education of many students. In 2021, the Foundation’s Board made the difficult decision to end the organization, in part due to difficulty in maintaining an active board of volunteers. At that time, the Board decided to donate the remaining funds toward the Ray-Pec orchestra program.
Throughout the years, Young has been a passionate supporter of music education and the creation of an orchestra program in the Ray-Pec School District. He is pictured with his wife, Mary.

All-state! Congratulations to Hayden Kurtz on placing 6th in the javelin throw for Class 5 at the state track and field meet on May 27. Her top throw was 38.38.
