Artificial Intelligence (A.I.)

The Raymore-Peculiar School District recognizes the potential benefits of using artificial intelligence (A.I.) in the classroom and for the operation of schools. The district embraces this type of resource and, with a measured approach, will move forward in the leverage of A.I. as a productive tool in the classroom and workplace while maintaining student safety and privacy. A.I. is any technology that can produce content including, but not limited to:  text, images, audio and/or simulated data. It can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as understanding language, recognizing patterns, solving problems and making decisions. In the educational context, it can support personalized learning, accelerate learning, automate administrative tasks and provide interactive and engaging learning experiences. Teachers can use A.I.for a broad range of educational reasons. Teachers and staff should integrate technology tools that benefit the educational process. The district will provide education on A.I.’s role in enhancing instruction and productivity. Being knowledgeable about both implication and applications of A.I. will help teachers best leverage these tools safely and effectively, thereby fostering a more adaptive and innovative learning environment for students.

Levels of A.I. Use

There are four levels of acceptable AI use. Teachers should inform students and parents about the specific level(s) of use that is acceptable for their course, either through the syllabus or assignment instructions.

A.I. Implementation Plan

The district created an A.I. Exploratory Lead Team in the fall of 2023. This team was charged with making plans for possible A.I. implementation in the future. This included researching policies and best practices as well as participating in professional learning and vetting A.I. options for teachers and students. The team continues to meet to implement the current plans and continue to make future plans.
