End of Grading Period 1

The end of the first six week grading period is September 29th. Teachers have until 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 4th to make sure all grades are up-to-date for the first grading period. The end of a period is simply a checkpoint for student grades throughout the course of a semester. The only grade that goes on a student’s permanent academic record is the grade at the end of the semester.

Something we see often at the high school level is students thinking that they will be able to “turn it on” at the end of the semester or earn extra credit in December that will bring them up to passing. I want to iterate that we do not offer extra credit at the high school level. They also tend to believe that turning in a few assignments at the end of the semester will drastically raise their grade by several percentage points. Late in the semester, it sometimes turns out to be too little too late. Please help us to make sure your child is staying on top of their school work now. As I have told many students throughout the years, it is easier to maintain a good grade than it is to try to climb out of a hole.

Picture Retake Day

If your student missed picture day or needs to have their picture retaken, please mark your calendar for Picture Retake Day on October 3, 2023. You can Pre-Order picture retakes from this link to Pearce Photography

Transportation

I want to thank all of our NGC families for your patience as we navigate the bus driver shortage, which is leading to several bus delays before and after school. Please see the following link for more information about the ParentView App, which can give you access to your child’s bus status.

If you or anyone you know has an interest in driving a bus, please reach out to First Student for more information.

Fall Activities Assembly

On October 4th, we will be having a Fall Activities Assembly during the school day to recognize our students who are participating in fall activities.

Parent-Teacher Conferences to be held on October 12th and October 19th

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held over the course of two evenings. The details for the two evenings are as follows:

  • October 12th from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm (In-Person): On this night, parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers in-person at the Ninth Grade Center. Parents may come and go as they please with no appointments necessary.

  • October 19th (Virtual in Evening): On this night, parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers virtually through a Google Meet. Parents will need to sign up for a 10-minute appointment slot with each teacher. More information regarding signing up for appointment slots will be provided at a later date.

October 23rd - No School - Collaboration Day

There will be no school on Monday, October 23rd in order for teachers to participate in a district-wide collaboration day. I recognize that these days may cause a disruption to your normal schedule, and I thank you for your understanding. This time is truly valuable to our teachers to help provide your child with a high-quality educational experience.
