Assessments
IA – Internal Assessment: Assessment completed in the school and submitted to IB for moderation. Usually about 30% of Final IB score
External Assessment: Assessment marked by IB. Usually about 70% of final IB score.
Scripts: Completed exams
Moderation: A process by which an IB Examiner checks assessed work to ensure that standards and criterion are being applied correctly and consistently.
Enquiry Upon Results (EUR): Request for remark or return of externally scored assessments
Categories of IB Students
Certificate Candidates: Students registered in IB Program, but not taking all the requirements for the IB Diploma
Diploma Candidates: Students registered in their final year of the program taking all the requirements for the IB Diploma.
Anticipated Candidates: Students registered in their first year of the program and expecting to take all the requirements for the IB Diploma.
Types of IB Courses
Higher Level (HL): Courses offered in more depth and at a higher degree of difficulty -240 hours
Standard Level (SL): Courses offered in less depth - 150 hours
The “Core” of the IB Diploma Program
Theory of Knowledge (TOK): A class diploma candidates must take in the spring of their junior year AND fall of their senior year. TOK explores questions of philosophy and the origins of knowledge.
Extended Essay: 4,000 word essay students are required to write as one component of the diploma program. Students must conduct original research and will work with a teacher to help guide them through the process.
Creativity, Action, Service Activities (CAS): Students must complete activities that can include community service, sports activities, tutoring/mentoring, etc.
